Electrical Engineering Stream

From October 2000 the degree is being offered on a semester basis on a new syllabus.  A minimum of 150 credits, as specified in the following sections, are required in order to graduate. These are also in conformity with the guidelines for accreditation set out by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka].  The Grade Point Average (GPA) will be worked on all credits offered and not on the minimum.

  Non GPA credits are normally conducted during the June Term.  §Non-technical GPA credits to be offered during the June Term.

  Semesters are normally of 14 week duration and June Terms are of 8 week duration.

  All Level 1 Courses are compulsory for all students in the Main Engineering Intake.  Selection to fields within the Intake are based on the Level 1 performance.  Selection to elective courses will be based on performance and other criteria as decided by the departments.

At Level 2, a minimum of 8 Credits from Mathematics (MA), 10 Credits from subjects taught by Electrical Engineering (EE), 7.5 Credits from subjects taught by Electronic & Telecom Engineering (EN), 7.5 Credits from subjects taught by Computer Science & Engineering (CS) are compulsory with a Minimum requirement from group of  27.5 Credits. At least 2.5 Credits from modules taught by other Engineering departments are also required [The module EE227 - Engineering Acoustics can also be considered for this group].  The normal credit requirement at Level 2 is 40.5 credits with a usually acceptable range of 38 to 43 credits.
