Dr. R. M. Thushara Damayanthi received her B.Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering with First Class Honors in 2003 from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Soon after the graduation, she was awarded the Japanese Monbukagakusho scholarship for higher studies at the University of Tokyo, Japan. She obtained her Master of Science in Quantum Engineering and Systems Science and PhD in Nuclear Engineering and Management at the University of Tokyo in 2006 and 2009 respectively.  At the completion of her doctoral degree, she was awarded the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Fellowship for 2 years for the University of Tokyo. After that she was recruited as a researcher at the University of Tokyo. At the University of Tokyo she was in the Transition Edge Sensor (TES) research group and worked on the design and fabrication of TESs, and high energy radiation measurements. In 2013, she joined the THz Sensing and Imaging Research Group in RIKEN Advanced Research Institute of Japan as a Special Postdoctoral Researcher. At there, she worked on designing the MKID superconducting detectors coupled with THz wave antenna for upcoming GroundBIRD telescope. In April, 2016 she joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa as a Senior Lecturer.

She is mastered in superconducting detector technologies, high energy radiation measurements, micro and Nano scale fabrications, electromagnetic simulation and CAD designing.
